CAIRO-The political leadership in Egypt is keen on increasing the number of universities and institutes across the country to cope with an expected rise in the number of students in the coming stage, said Higher Education Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar Sunday.

Egypt is seeking to build at least one governmental university in each governorate to reduce the expatriation of students away from their home towns, Abdel Ghaffar said as he laid the foundation stone of a Suez University branch in South Sinai.

A plan is designed to also upgrade education curricula to meet demands of the labor market, he noted.

Measuring 50 feddans, a land lot has been allocated for the establishment of the Suez University branch in Salam district of South Sinai, the minister said.

He added that four colleges will be inaugurated as part of phase one of the project, namely the faculties of education, arts, science and commerce.

Abdel Ghaffar thanked President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for his continued support for higher education and scientific research
