The Arab League (AL) on Thursday said that Syria has expressed desire to host the first edition of the Arab trade fair of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA) Member States, slated for 2025.
Syria’s request to host the first edition of the Arab economic event was welcomed by the AL council during its meeting on September 5, according to a statement issued by the AL on Thursday.
In 2026, Egypt will host the second edition of the exhibition, which is meant to promote the intra-Arab trade, the statement added.
The AL Council during its 33rd ordinary session that took place in Bahrain on May 16 called for organizing a GAFTA trade expo in one of the Arab countries showing desire to host it, the statement read.
The event aims to represent a platform for Arab and public companies to showcase products targeting the Arab markets along with organizing workshops and symposiums, with a view to exchanging expertise and excellence practices between participants towards fostering opportunities of economic integration among Arab states, the statement added.
