Head of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), Dr Ali El-Ghamrawy, discussed on Saturday with Sweden’s Ambassador to Egypt, Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt, avenues for strengthening bilateral co-operation and advancing the strategic partnership between the two countries in the pharmaceutical sector.
They focused on mechanisms to build upon the outcomes of the recent official visit by Sweden’s Minister of Health, Elisabet Lann, to Egypt, reflecting a mutual commitment to elevating their co-operation to a more integrated and sustainable level.
El-Ghamrawy reaffirmed EDA’s commitment to expanding collaboration with international partners in a manner that promotes the exchange of expertise and enhances regulatory capabilities in line with the latest global standards.
EDA chairman also highlighted the importance of technical co-operation with the Swedish Medical Products Agency, particularly in supporting its efforts to attain Maturity Level 4 (ML4) under the World Health Organisation’s benchmarking framework.
This objective reflects Egypt’s broader commitment to adopting best-in-class international regulatory practices.
For his part, Ambassador Juhlin-Dannfelt commended EDA’s progress in regulating and overseeing the pharmaceutical market.
He expressed Sweden’s appreciation of EDA’s key role and reaffirmed his country’s support for Egypt’s ambition to serve as a leading regional hub for the pharmaceutical industry.
The meeting also underscored Egypt’s strategic position as a gateway linking European, African and Middle Eastern markets, offering considerable potential for the localisation of advanced medical industries and the expansion of pharmaceutical sector investments.
