The Ministry of Transport announced on Monday that transit shipments continue to move smoothly through the Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) line at Damietta Port, as part of the newly established indirect transit service connecting Europe with Gulf markets.
The development follows the successful launch of the indirect transit system via Damietta Port, operating through the Ro-Ro service linking Egypt with the Italian port of Trieste Port, and enabling the steady flow of European consignments bound for Gulf destinations, reflecting the efficiency of the emerging logistics corridor.
The port recently received 16 trucks carrying around 295 tonnes of goods, including food products and paints, under the indirect transit framework.
The shipments were handled through an integrated operational system in preparation for onward land transport to Safaga Port, before continuing by sea to the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar.
All customs and operational procedures were completed efficiently, supported by facilitation measures implemented by the Damietta Port Authority, according to a statement from the Ministry of Transport.
The process was carried out in close coordination between the Damietta Port Authority, Pan Marine Group—the operator of the Ro-Ro line—the General Transit Department of the Central Administration of Damietta Customs, and other relevant authorities.
This coordination has contributed to faster clearance times through an advanced digital system designed to enhance performance efficiency and data integration.
The ministry said the continued handling of such shipments underscores the success of the new service in facilitating indirect transit operations between Damietta Port and Trieste, strengthening Egypt’s role as a regional logistics hub.
The service offers significant competitive advantages, including reduced transit times and lower transportation costs, in addition to customs facilitation measures, most notably the exemption of indirect transit shipments destined for Gulf countries from prior registration in the ACI system.
