Minister of Transport Kamel el-Wazir discussed during a meeting Wednesday with his Sudanese counterpart Hisham Abu Zaid easing overcrowding of trucks on the borders between Sudan and Egypt.

The minister of transport said two mini-logistics zones were implemented in Wadi Karkar and the city of Abu Simbel to operate as waiting areas for trucks and offer logistics to drivers round-the-clock, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Transport.

The Egyptian and the Sudanese sides agreed on measures to facilitate truck movement, the number of trucks set to pass land crossings, in addition to offering logistics in areas between Arqin, Qustul and Abu Simbel land crossings.

Contact points have been established between the logistic zones and the officials of the Qustul and Arqin ports. This coordination ensures the proper routing of vehicles and restricts any unauthorized movement, the statement said.

Also, ongoing logistic support is being provided to the drivers in the region between Karkar, Abu Simbel, Arqin, and Qustul, the statement added. The initiative is in partnership with the Egyptian Red Crescent and Aswan Governorate, it read.

The two ministers agreed on the necessity on expediting the entrance and exit of trucks between Egypt and Sudan, according to the statement.
