CAIRO – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty and his Sudanese counterpart Muhi el Din Salem on Monday affirmed total rejection of any unilateral measures on the Nile River.
Abdelatty and Salem underscored Egypt and Sudan’s unified stance as downstream countries of the Nile River, as well as the importance of adherence to international law in the Eastern Nile Basin.This came during a meeting between the two top diplomats on the sidelines of the fifth edition of Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development currently taking place in the Upper Egypt governorate of Aswan.During the meeting, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s active engagement in efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire and a humanitarian truce in Sudan, with the aim of ending the suffering of the Sudanese people.
He emphasized Egypt’s ongoing endeavors to achieve stability in Sudan, expressing Egypt’s complete solidarity with Sudan and its full support for its stability, security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions.The top Egyptian diplomat said that he is looking forward to convening the second Egypt-Sudan Business Forum later in 2025.
He hailed the underway preparations for holding the joint trade committee meetings in Cairo as well as hosting a delegation from Sudan’s Ministry of Investment by Cairo to transfer Egyptian know-how in the field of investment.Abdelatty reviewed Egyptian efforts in the reconstruction and development of Khartoum’s infrastructure, including the implementation of the project to repair and rehabilitate the Helfaya and Shambat bridges in the Sudanese capital.
He affirmed Egypt’s readiness and aspiration to contribute to the rehabilitation of the electricity, water, health, and education sectors in Sudan.Abdelatty inaugurated the fifth edition of Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development on SundayThe two-day event is taking place under the theme “A World in Flux, A Continent in Motion”.
