Egypt expressed on Tuesday its strong condemnation and deep denunciation of the act of aggression carried out by the Israeli occupation forces against the sisterly State of Qatar.
‎‏In an official statement, the Egyptian Presidency said: “Egypt expresses its strong condemnation and deep denunciation of the attack carried out by the Israeli occupation forces against the State of Qatar, which targeted a meeting of Palestinian leaders in the Qatari capital, Doha, to discuss ways to reach a ceasefire agreement. The attack is a blatant violation of international law, the principles of respect for the sovereignty of states, and the inviolability of their territories”.
‎‏The statement stressed that the attack represents a dangerous precedent and an unacceptable development, as well as a direct assault on the sovereignty of Qatar, a state playing a pivotal role in mediation efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
‎‏Egypt further warned that such an escalation undermines international efforts to calm the situation and threatens the security and stability of the entire region.
‎‏Egypt affirmed its full solidarity with Qatar – its leadership and people – and called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities toward this blatant Israeli violation. It urged immediate action to end the aggression, ensure accountability for those responsible, and prevent this assault from being added to Israel’s record of impunity.
‎‏The Israeli army announced yesterday that it had targeted a meeting of senior Hamas officials in Doha. The daily Yedioth Ahronoth quoted Israeli military sources claiming it carried out “a precise strike targeting the senior leadership of Hamas.” Television footage showed plumes of smoke rising following a series of explosions in the Qatari capital.
‎‏Qatar’s Al Jazeera news channel reported, citing Hamas sources, that the delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya survived the Israeli strike in Doha. The report was broadcast as breaking news, without additional details.
‎‏Qatar, along other states, have strongly condemned the assault, describing it as a cowardly Israeli attack that targeted residential compounds housing several members of Hamas’ political bureau in Doha.
‎‏Adviser to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majed Mohammed Al-Ansari, said in a statement on X that the “criminal assault constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and norms, and poses a serious threat to the safety and security of Qatari citizens and residents.”
‎‏Al-Ansari confirmed that security forces, civil defence units, and relevant authorities responded immediately to the incident, taking necessary measures to contain its repercussions and ensure the safety of residents and surrounding areas. He added that Qatar will not tolerate such reckless Israeli behaviour, nor any act targeting its sovereignty and security, while affirming that investigations are underway at the highest level and that further details will be announced once available.
