Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Monday reviewed efforts to support fuel security for Egypt’s aviation sector, while accelerating the country’s first sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project, as part of broader plans to support cleaner energy and meet rising air travel demand.
During a meeting with the Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny and Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi, Madbouli stressed the importance of close coordination between the two ministries to ensure a reliable and uninterrupted supply of aviation fuel.
The meeting reviewed progress on the Ministry of Petroleum’s SAF project, which is being developed in co-operation with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Cabinet Spokesman Mohamed El-Homosany said.
The project, the first of its kind in Egypt, aims to produce environmentally sustainable aviation fuel to help reduce carbon emissions from the aviation sector, supporting the state’s broader transition towards renewable and cleaner sources of energy, El-Homosany added.
The meeting also reviewed ongoing co-ordination between the petroleum and civil aviation sectors to meet growing demand for jet fuel, particularly during peak travel periods, including the Hajj and Umrah seasons and the tourism high season.
Minister Badawi said Egypt currently provide full domestic demand for jet fuel through local refinery production.
The ministry is upgrading aircraft refuelling facilities at Egyptian airports, expanding fuel infrastructure and deploying modern refuelling units to accommodate increasing air traffic and support future growth in the aviation sector, he added.
