Egypt is stepping up efforts to strengthen pharmaceutical supply chains, enhance logistics efficiency, and support humanitarian operations for patients from the Gaza Strip, following high-level talks between the ministers of health and transport.
Minister of Health and Population Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar received Minister of Transport Kamel el-Wazir on Wednesday, where both sides discussed expanding co-operation to ensure the steady availability of medicines and medical supplies at high quality and affordable cost.
Central to the discussions was the development of an integrated logistics system for the transport of raw materials and finished pharmaceuticals. The ministers stressed the need to accelerate shipping and distribution processes from ports to strategic warehouses nationwide, in line with Egypt’s broader efforts to modernise supply chains.
The two sides also explored ways to leverage the country’s significant advancements in land and maritime transport infrastructure to streamline supply operations, reduce storage and transit times, and protect pharmaceutical products from environmental factors or delays that could compromise their effectiveness.
On the humanitarian front, the talks addressed ongoing coordination to support Palestinians arriving via the Rafah border crossing. The Ministry of Transport is providing equipped buses to facilitate the movement of patients’ companions entering Egypt to designated hospitals, easing access to treatment as part of Egypt’s continued humanitarian role in supporting the Palestinian people.
The meeting reflects a coordinated government approach to strengthening healthcare resilience while maintaining Egypt’s commitment to regional humanitarian support.
