CAIRO – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held on Sunday separate phone calls with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi to follow up on developments related to Iran’s nuclear file.

The contacts come as part of Egypt’s ongoing efforts to reduce tensions and promote security and stability in the region.

The contacts tackled the current cooperation between Iran and the IAEA on the nuclear issue with Abdelatty underlining the importance of continuing efforts aimed at de-escalating the situation, building confidence and creating the conditions necessary to sustain the existing cooperation. This will provide a genuine opportunity for diplomatic solutions and the resumption of negotiations with the aim of reaching a comprehensive agreement on Iran’s nuclear program that takes into account the interests of all parties and supports regional security and stability.

The calls also touched on developments ahead of the upcoming session of the IAEA Board of Governors as Abdelatty underscored the importance of maintaining dialogue within multilateral frameworks to support the global non-proliferation system at both the regional and international levels and to bolster international security and stability.

Grossi, for his part, praised President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s efforts to expand the peaceful uses of nuclear energy in support of national development, particularly the Dabaa nuclear power plant project, which he said represents a model of effective cooperation and coordination between states and the Agency.
