CAIRO – Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation El Sayyed El Quseir said that the State spares no effort to achieve food security for citizens.
In statements to MENA on Friday, the minister said that the agricultural sector has witnessed an unprecedented leap that aimed at achieving a balanced development.
Egypt also achieved self-sufficiency in many crops, including vegetables, fruits, and others, with a surplus for export, the minister said.
He further noted that Egypt also managed to narrow the production gap for other crops, including wheat, corn, beans, and others, as per President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to increase agricultural productivity and expand agricultural output.
There has also been a boom in agricultural exports, which exceeded 7 million tons of agro products in 2023, the minister added.
During the recent period, more than 3.5 million feddans have been reclaimed, in addition to the implementation of 18 agricultural clusters in the Sinai Peninsula, he said.
Nearly 40 billion pounds have been secured to support the fertilizer system in three years, in addition to activating the contract farming system in eight agricultural crops for the first time, the minister added.
“Contract farming” usually allows farmers access to some form of credit to finance production inputs.
