Egypt is committed to deepening strategic health and development co-operation with Spain, Deputy Prime Minister and Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said on Monday during talks with Spanish Ambassador to Cairo Álvaro Iranzo.
The meeting focused on expanding collaboration in organ transplantation, a field where Spain is recognized as a global leader. Both sides discussed launching joint training programs for Egyptian medical personnel, including workshops and field visits to Spanish transplant centers. The proposal also included creating a digital platform for scientific exchange and adopting Spain’s model for managing surgical waitlists.
Health ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the talks also addressed cooperation in upgrading Egypt’s medical infrastructure, leveraging Spanish technology to equip hospitals, and exploring private-sector partnerships to boost pharmaceutical and medical supplies manufacturing.
The two sides reviewed joint humanitarian efforts in Gaza, including emergency medical supply deliveries and potential collaboration with Spanish organizations to deploy specialized medical teams and equipment. Abdel Ghaffar reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to treating injured Palestinians in Egyptian hospitals.
Ambassador Iranzo praised the strong ties between the two countries and expressed Spain’s willingness to expand cooperation in both health and humanitarian sectors.
