Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity and Vice President of the Egyptian Red Crescent (RRC), Maya Morsy, witnessed on Tuesday the signing of a memorandum of understanding (M0U) between the ERC and the Korean Red Cross to strengthen humanitarian aid for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and those residing in Egypt.
The MoU, signed by ERC Executive Director Amal Emam and a senior Korean Red Cross official, is funded by the South Korean government. It aims to support relief efforts for Palestinians in Gaza and host communities in Egypt, while enhancing the ERC’s logistical capacity and its ability to deliver humanitarian aid to the enclave.
Morsy welcomed the partnership, stressing that the ERC serves as Egypt’s national mechanism for delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza in accordance with international humanitarian law.
She said Egypt has placed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza at the forefront of its political and diplomatic priorities, noting that the country has facilitated the majority of aid entering the territory since the conflict began in October 2023.
South Korean Ambassador to Egypt Kim Wan Joong praised Egypt and ERC for their humanitarian efforts and highlighted the importance of the new partnership in supporting the Palestinians.
Amal Emam said the ERC’s response has continued for more than 900 days, with nearly 75,000 volunteers participating in relief operations.
She added that more than one million tonnes of humanitarian aid, including food, medicines, medical supplies, relief materials and fuel, have been delivered through the Rafah and Karem Abu Salem Crossings.
