Egypt and Somalia have agreed to promote their bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership.

The agreement aims to bolster security, drive sustainable economic development, and address mutual challenges in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea regions.

The partnership reflects a commitment to closer collaboration across political, military, economic, and cultural sectors.

Both nations aim to establish mechanisms for regular consultations at the presidential and ministerial levels to oversee the implementation of joint strategies and explore new avenues for cooperation.

A high-level committee will also monitor progress and ensure alignment with shared goals.

Egypt pledged to continue its military support to Somalia under the 2024 military cooperation protocol, with an emphasis on counterterrorism, training, and securing borders.

Efforts will also focus on strengthening intelligence sharing and law enforcement capabilities.

The agreement prioritizes education and capacity building, with plans to increase scholarships for Somali students in Egyptian universities and expand training programs in key sectors such as governance, healthcare, and agriculture.

Egypt will also assist Somalia in reforming its judicial system, drafting a new constitution, and preparing for elections in line with national goals.

Economic cooperation forms a cornerstone of the partnership, with both countries committing to increase trade and investment in key sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, construction, renewable energy, and transportation.

Plans include hosting business forums, removing barriers to investment, and fostering stronger private-sector collaboration.
