CAIRO – Minister of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania Al Mashat signed Sunday an agreement with Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanár to establish a Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation between the two countries.
The signing took place during the Slovak Minister’s visit to Egypt to attend the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).
Mashat said the agreement stems from the two countries’ keenness to expand the scope of economic partnership and explore more areas of cooperation, which will reflect positively on developing relations to meet shared priorities.
She noted that during the signing ceremony, the two Ministers held a joint discussion session where they stressed the importance of the Joint Economic Cooperation Committee agreement.
This committee will lead to an increase in cooperation fields between the two countries, in light of the strategic partnership between Egypt and the European Union and the recent development of relations, which was embodied in the first Egyptian-European Summit recently held in Brussels and which continued the ongoing momentum in joint relations since March 2024.
She pointed out that the meeting discussed the timing for convening the first session of the Egyptian-Slovak Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation.
The committee would create an effective framework for cooperation that maximizes the benefit from the substantial economic potential in both countries and the available opportunities to boost the partnership, especially in terms of increasing joint investments and raising the number of tourists visiting Egypt, particularly after the opening of the GEM, the largest museum in the world dedicated to one civilization.
The committee will also support national priorities in the areas of localizing industry and enabling the private sector.
The minister said Egypt values its relationship with the friendly state of Slovakia, which began in the 1990s.
She added that in the context of the evolving Egyptian-European relations, the partnership with Slovakia is of great importance given its growing role within the European Union and its efforts to strengthen relations with countries in the Middle East and North Africa region.
