Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid held talks on Thursday with Serbian Trade Minister Yagoda Lazarevic, who also serves as Commissioner General of Expo 2027 Belgrade.

The meeting, attended by Egypt’s Ambassador Ahmed Salama, focused on strengthening economic and trade ties and preparing for Egypt’s participation in Expo 2027, scheduled from May to August 2027.

The ministers highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation in industry, trade, and investment. They stressed the need to activate last year’s free trade agreement to open new markets for exports. Farid said Egypt’s participation in Expo 2027 will showcase investment opportunities and promote Egyptian brands to boost exports. He emphasized that Egypt’s economy has strong fundamentals to attract investment for production and export.

Lazarevic announced that Serbia is studying the establishment of a trade office in Cairo, the first of its kind in Africa, recognizing Egypt’s role as a key logistics and trade hub.

Farid congratulated Serbia on hosting Expo 2027 and confirmed Egypt’s commitment to active participation. He invited Lazarevic to visit Egypt this year, while she extended a reciprocal invitation. Both sides agreed to intensify trade missions and official visits to strengthen long‑term economic partnership.

Expo 2027 Belgrade is expected to attract over 4 million visitors and more than 120 countries.
