Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, and a Huawei Egypt delegation discussed on Monday means to boost co-operation under Egypt’s digital transformation strategy and maximising returns from renewable energy projects.
The meeting reviewed opportunities for partnership to modernise the national grid and enhance its capacity to absorb renewable energy. It also discussed proposed solutions to ensure the stability and continuity of electricity supply during peak demand periods, particularly in the summer.
Discussions also focused on improving grid resilience and operational efficiency amid rising electricity demand and increasing integration of renewable sources.
The two sides explored Huawei’s advanced technologies, including Intelligent Distribution Systems (IDS), and their role in mitigating the impact of distributed solar energy and storage integration on the grid.
Esmat described Huawei as a “trusted partner,” highlighting joint efforts to transition from conventional to smart grids capable of efficiently transmitting large volumes of renewable energy.
He noted that Egypt’s national energy strategy targets increasing the share of renewable and clean energy to 45% of the energy mix by 2028.
Expanding energy storage systems and leveraging advanced technologies are key to enhancing service quality, improving performance, and supporting the sustainable expansion of renewable energy while maintaining grid stability, he added.
