CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait asserted that Egypt was looking forward to gaining the support of international partners to the African visions pertaining to funding and climate in a way that could create constructive partnerships that turn emerging economies into more resilient ones in standing up to shocks resulting from climate changes.
The minister’s remarks were made during his meeting with representatives of the World Bank on the fringe of the Egypt-International Cooperation Forum (Egypt-ICF 2022)’s 2nd edition, which kicked off on Wednesday at the New Administrative Capital.
He said Egypt is keen on enhancing development cooperation with the World Bank to find social-dimension projects along with discussing means of working out creative tools to fund development initiatives that contribute to mitigating climate change.
The minister pressed the need for attracting more attention to developing and African states in countering the economic challenges they face as a result of the war in Europe as well as the global economic crisis.
He also praised the efforts of the World Bank to bolster the social protection umbrella through backing the universal health insurance system, upgrade the health infrastructure, human resources and governance in order to secure sustainability of the new system and secure high quality healthcare for all citizens.
Maait also highlighted that Takaful and Karama program has already achieved its targets, according to a study conducted by the WB, noting that the state would continue to enlarge the number of beneficiaries from such program to cover the most vulnerable categories in a way that helps in reducing poverty and offers a decent life to the citizens.
The minister extended an invitation to the World Bank President to attend Funding Day on November 9 that will discuss several issues pertaining to green transition funding.
