EGYPT expressed deep concern yesterday over the situation in Sudan, in the wake of the eruption of clashes in the neighbouring country.
In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry called on all Sudanese parties to practice maximum restraint.
It called on parties in the neighboring country to act to safeguard lives and the properties of what it called the ‘brotherly’ people of Sudan.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry also underscored the importance of prioritising the supreme interests of Sudan.
Clashes erupted between Sudanese army troops and troops affiliated to the Rapid Support Force (RSF) in different parts of Sudan early yesterday, especially in capital Khartoum and the northern city of Merowe, after RSF troops advanced into these areas and overrun several positions.
The Sudanese army condemned the move and said its troops would act to bring things back under its control.
The eruption of violence in Sudan raised concern around the world and inside Sudan.
Several international airlines suspended flights to the Sudanese capital, including the Egyptian national carrier, EgyptAir, which said it would suspend flights to and from Khartoum International Airport for 72 hours as of yesterday, against the background of security conditions in neighbouring Sudan.
