Egypt and Rwanda agreed to expand cooperation in higher education and scientific research during a meeting in Cairo. Rwanda’s Minister of Education Joseph Nsengimana, carrying a letter from President Paul Kagame to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, met with Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education Abdelaziz Konsowa. Rwanda’s ambassador Dan Munyuza also attended.
The talks focused on building strategic partnerships between universities in both countries. Konsowa highlighted Egypt’s commitment to supporting African nations through academic expertise. He pointed to Egyptian universities opening branches across Africa, including Alexandria University in Chad and South Sudan, and Cairo University in Sudan. He said Egypt aims to share knowledge in vital scientific fields to help train African leaders.
Nsengimana praised Egypt’s recent progress in higher education and expressed Rwanda’s interest in learning from Egypt’s experience, especially in technological and applied education. He said Rwanda is working to equip its youth with advanced digital skills and promote applied research.
Ambassador Munyuza described Egypt as a beacon of knowledge in Africa and welcomed stronger student and faculty exchanges. He stressed Rwanda’s readiness to remove barriers to academic cooperation.
The meeting discussed joint programs in English and French to widen access for students. Both sides explored collaboration in technological universities, applied sciences, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. They also agreed to prioritize applied research linked to industry, focusing on agriculture, water, and renewable energy.
Officials emphasized the importance of tackling shared African challenges such as climate change, energy shortages, and water crises through joint scientific projects.
The session was attended by senior Egyptian officials and diplomats, including representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Francophonie. Both countries pledged to continue building partnerships that support regional integration and sustainable development.
