Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati held phone talks with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to review the escalating military tensions in the region.
The two ministers discussed ways to contain the situation and emphasised the importance of regional and international cooperation to prevent further escalation.
Abdel-Aati warned of the catastrophic consequences of an expanding conflict and stressed that political and diplomatic solutions remain the sole viable path to prevent the region from descending into chaos, with devastating impacts on security and stability.
Dialogue is indispensable for addressing current crises, he said.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian top diplomat strongly condemned the attacks on Iraqi territories, as well as on Arab Gulf states and Jordan, and voiced rejection of violation of sovereignty or territorial integrity of any country.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with Iraq and other Arab counries facing such threats, andhighlighted the need to respect the principles of good neighbourliness and international law to safeguard regional peace and security.
