Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati reaffirmed unwavering support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity during a phone call on Saturday with his Somali counterpart, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, as the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and regional developments in the Horn of Africa.
During the call, Abdel-Aati stressed Egypt’s full support for Somalia and its national institutions, underscoring Cairo’s commitment to the country’s security and stability. He reiterated Egypt’s steadfast position in support of Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Egyptian foreign minister also reaffirmed Cairo’s categorical rejection of any recognition of the so-called “Somaliland,” describing such a move as a violation of the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The two ministers also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral co-operation and exchanged views on the evolving situation in Somalia, as well as broader regional developments, particularly in the Horn of Africa.
For his part, Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali expressed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s continued political, developmental and security support. He praised Cairo’s consistent stance in backing Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, while reaffirming Mogadishu’s commitment to maintaining close co-ordination and consultation with Egypt on issues of mutual bilateral and regional interest.
