Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi on Monday discussed with Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and CEO of QatarEnergy Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi ways of accelerating the implementation of joint natural gas projects and the signing of long-term contracts for the supply of natural gas from Qatar to meet the local demand.

The Ministry of Petroleum, in a statement on Monday, said that Badawi is visiting Qatar at the invitation of the Qatari minister of energy to explore opportunities for expanding cooperation and joint investment in the energy sector between the two countries.

During a meeting, the two sides discussed enhancing integration between the two countries in the energy infrastructure to serve mutual interests, in light of both countries’ potentials in liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade, liquefaction, and regasification activities.

The meeting took up strengthening cooperation in exploration and production, and increasing production rates from concession areas operated by QatarEnergy in Egypt.

The meeting reviewed the QatarEnergy drilling plans, particularly the drilling of the Nefertari, Cairo, Masry, and North Marakia wells in the Mediterranean Sea, in partnership with the global company ExxonMobil.

Meanwhile, Badawi highlighted the investment opportunities of Egypt’s oil and gas fields and high-value petrochemicals.

For his part, Kaabi expressed QatarEnergy’s interest in expanding operations and increasing investments in exploration and production activities in Egypt.
