In a unified call for immediate action, the leaders of the United States, Egypt, and Qatar have issued a joint statement underscoring the urgent need to provide relief to the people of Gaza and to address the plight of hostages and their families. The statement highlights the necessity of concluding a ceasefire and implementing a comprehensive deal for the release of detainees.

The joint statement marks the culmination of extensive negotiations by President Joe Biden of the United States, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi of Egypt, and Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar. Over the past months, leaders and their teams have labored to create a framework agreement, which is now prepared for final implementation. This agreement aligns with the principles laid out by President Biden on May 31, 2024, and is supported by UN Security Council Resolution 2735.

The leaders emphasize that the time for procrastination has ended. They insist that all parties must now focus on the immediate release of hostages, the initiation of a ceasefire, and the full implementation of the agreement. In an effort to resolve any outstanding issues, the mediators stand ready to present a final bridging proposal to ensure all parties’ expectations are met.

To expedite the resolution process, President Biden, President El Sisi, and Amir Sheikh Tamim have called for urgent discussions to take place on Thursday, August 15. These talks will be held either in Doha or Cairo, with the goal of closing any remaining gaps and beginning the implementation of the deal without delay.

This joint effort underscores the commitment of the United States, Egypt, and Qatar to bring lasting peace and humanitarian relief to the region.
