PARIS– The Public Prosecution in Egypt is firm on retrieving all smuggled archaeological artifacts, a senior judicial official said Monday.
Mohamed Khalaf, director of the international cooperation department of the Public Prosecution, spoke of unwavering efforts to restore all ancient pieces outside Egypt regardless of legal or procedural obstacles.
The Public Prosecution will track all smuggled artifacts and work to have them back, Khalaf said in statements to MENA correspondent in Paris on the fringe of a ceremony held at the Egyptian Embassy to hand over two artifacts that had been stolen from Saqqara.
In October, a French court ordered that the two pieces be returned to Egypt. The defendant in the case got a suspended three-year term and was ordered to pay compensation to Egypt.
