Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, said modernising the national electricity grid remains a top priority to enhance its capacity to integrate renewable energy, maximise the country’s vast solar and wind resources, and ensure a stable and reliable electricity supply.
Esmat made the remarks during a meeting on Saturday with Gong Yu, Vice President of China Southern Power Grid International (CSGI), and an accompanying delegation. The two sides discussed technical co-operation on electricity grid planning, renewable energy integration and advanced energy storage technologies.
The talks focused on strengthening co-operation in upgrading Egypt’s power transmission network, with particular focus on increasing renewable energy sources and developing innovative technologies to enhance grid security, stability and operational efficiency.
The two sides also reviewed the role of smart distribution systems and battery energy storage in enhancing grid resilience, particularly during periods of peak electricity demand.
Discussions further explored the development of advanced energy control centres, digital grid management solutions and modern power control systems to improve the efficiency and reliability of electricity services.
Esmat highlighted CSGI’s extensive expertise in electricity transmission and distribution, pumped-storage hydropower and integrated energy systems, noting that the company’s global experience could support Egypt’s ongoing efforts to modernise its electricity infrastructure and advance its clean energy transition.
