CAIRO/BAKU – Egypt has asserted the necessity of boosting cooperation, dealing with good intention and respecting international law especially regarding the rivers and transbooundary waters in order to avoid harming the interests of the countries sharing one river along with maintaining regional and international peace and stability.

This came in Egypt’s statement delivered by UN Permanent Delegate to UN Ambassador Osama Abdel Khaleq on behalf of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry during a ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), held in Baku on July 5-6.

The statement, according to MENA, pointed out to challenges facing the developing countries which are bearing the burden of the economic crisis, inflation and deficit in their public budgets, a matter which oblige the developing countries to be more flexible in exchanging such gross debts with joint investment projects to help in the economic recovery of such countries.

Egypt, in its statement, also asserted the need for bolstering the role of NAM countries in easing current international tensions, reieterating the need for giving a top priority for getting rid of nuclear weapons.

Egypt also reaffirmed the necessity of implementing commitments of the nuclear countries in accordance with the Non-Prefoliation Treaty (NPT), noting that any measures to decrease the risks of nuclear harzards should not replace getting rid of such weapons.

Egypt statement also reviewed the situation in the Middle East region espcially in Syria, the occupied Palestinian territories, Yemen, Libya, Sudan as well as other challenges facing the Horn of Africa region.

Cairo also affirmed the necessity of consolidating international efforts to help in building peace in the region and providing necessary funding for the national state foundations to move from the phase of conflicts to the phase of development and prosperity.
