Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, praised the constructive role played by the United Nations in supporting peace and sustainable development at both the regional and international levels.

This came during a meeting held by the two ministers, alongside Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan Al-Khatib, with the heads of the executive boards of several UN agencies: the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), UN Women, and the World Food Program (WFP).

The two ministers commended the diverse development projects carried out by the UN across Egypt. The meeting discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Egypt and the United Nations and its specialized agencies.

It also addressed joint efforts in areas including food security, the development of the health and education systems, water security, improving services for children in vulnerable communities, women’s empowerment across various sectors, enhancing their participation in the economy, and encouraging women to assume leadership roles in both the public and private spheres.

The Foreign Minister welcomed the UN delegation’s visit to Egypt, especially as it coincides with the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations — a practical embodiment of the strategic partnership that unites Egypt with the UN and its agencies. He noted that this comes at a critical time marked by regional developments and challenges, including geopolitical tensions, economic instability, and other developmental and environmental issues.

Abdelatty also highlighted Egypt’s active role in multilateral international engagement, noting that the country hosts 38 UN offices, including many regional ones, employing more than 2,300 staff members.

He reaffirmed Egypt’s firm belief in the importance of effective multilateralism as a cornerstone of stable international relations based on respect for international law, contributing to the promotion of peace, collective security, coexistence, and tolerance among nations.

For her part, Mashat reviewed Egypt’s efforts to achieve economic and sustainable development, highlighting the economic reforms implemented in recent years that have improved the country’s economic performance, enhanced its credit rating, and created a more attractive investment climate.

She emphasized that the United Nations and its specialized agencies can play a pivotal role in supporting Egypt’s efforts to implement its national development agenda, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030.

Separately, Minister Abdelatty referred to Egypt’s ongoing efforts to support civilians in the Gaza Strip, reviewing the outcomes of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit.

He stressed the importance of fully implementing the summit’s provisions and ensuring the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian, relief, and medical aid to the Strip, in order to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people and fulfill their legitimate aspirations.

The minister also discussed preparations for the upcoming International Conference on Early Recovery, Reconstruction, and Development in the Gaza Strip, scheduled to be held in Cairo in November, emphasizing Egypt’s commitment to ensuring effective UN participation in the event to support reconstruction and stability efforts in the region.
