Egypt is looking forward to further co-operation with all African countries to promote economic integration.
This statement by Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam came during a meeting with former foreign minister and chairman of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs (ECFA) Mohamed el-Orabi, ECFA director Ezzat Saad and senior council members.
Discussions fosued on progress to date in water projects between Egypt and African and Nile Basin countries.
They also reviewed the work of the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW), under the current Egyptian presidency of the Council.
The minister said that Egypt, during its two-year presidency of the council, is working round the clock to address water-related issues in Africa and the impact of climate change.
Sewilam added that he will continue co-ordinating with African countries to support for the Action on Water Adaptation and Resilience (AWARe), which was launched by Egypt during the 2022 climate conference (COP 27).
The minister stressed the importance of the participation of African countries in capacity-building programmes offered by the Pan-African Centre for Water and Climate Change Adaptation (PACWA).
