The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates hosted on Thursday in Cairo the 6th round of political consultations between Egypt and Peru at the assistant foreign minister level, reflecting both sides’ commitment to strengthening ties with Latin America.
Talks focused on enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in trade, investment, and economic cooperation.
Discussions highlighted boosting Egyptian exports with competitive advantages to the Peruvian market, including pharmaceuticals, agricultural products, construction materials, and fertilizers.
Both sides also reviewed investment opportunities, the expansion of existing Peruvian investments in Egypt, and prospects for Egyptian construction firms to participate in infrastructure projects in Peru.
The consultations reviewed existing agreements, alongside ongoing negotiations on new memoranda of understanding to be finalized before year-end.
On regional issues, Egypt outlined its balanced foreign policy approach and efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East.
Discussions covered developments in Gaza, support for peace efforts, commitment to a two-state solution, and initiatives aimed at securing a ceasefire in Lebanon while preserving its sovereignty.
Both sides agreed to hold virtual meetings between relevant authorities to further explore cooperation in agriculture, mining, and other key sectors.
