Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Tuesday inaugurated a new LEONI automotive wiring plant in Badr City, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir and other officials.
The facility, which spans 91,000 square metres, is LEONI’s 15th plant in Egypt and is described as the country’s largest industrial complex for manufacturing automotive wiring harnesses and cables. Officials said the project will help transfer advanced German technology, expand employment opportunities, boost production efficiency and deepen local manufacturing in Egypt’s growing automotive sector.
The plant forms part of the government’s broader strategy to localize vehicle production and attract more foreign direct investment. It will also benefit from Egypt’s fast international transport network, including the roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) shipping line linking Damietta to Europe, which is expected to enhance the company’s export capability and strengthen Egypt’s position as a regional industrial and logistics hub.
LEONI aims to consolidate its presence in the Egyptian market, which it regards as one of the most important in the region, while maintaining its competitiveness and increasing exports to key target markets.
