Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty delivered a written message from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in which he reiterated the deep-rooted and distinguished friendly ties between the two countries.

President Tinubu received Minister Abdel Aaty on Monday evening, according to a press release in Cairo on Tuesday.

President Sisi voiced hopes to bolster bilateral co-operation and coordination in various fields, in addition to supporting security and stability in the continent.

Minister Abdel Aaty lauded the historical and close relations between the two countries and affirmed keenness to maintain efforts to advance the frameworks of bilateral co-operation to broader prospects, considering the common aspirations of the two countries to enhance security, stability and development in the African continent.

The Egyptian chief diplomat said his visit to Nigeria comes within the framework of following up on the results of the meeting between the two presidents in Brazil in November 2024, and the outcomes of the third round of political consultations at the foreign ministerial level held in Cairo in January 2025.

Abdel Aaty stressed the importance of exploiting the capabilities of both countries to strengthen bilateral co-operation in sectors of priority, particularly trade and investment.

The minister is accompanied by a high-level delegation of 30 businessmen, CEOs, and representatives of Egyptian companies operating in various fields. This visit is part of the efforts to consolidate economic and investment co-operation between the two countries and explore new opportunities for partnership in a number of sectors including infrastructure, energy, agriculture, health, construction, and industry.

It demonstrates Egypt’s commitment to supporting African economic integration and strengthening the role of the private sector in driving joint development, he said.

Meanwhile, Abdel Aaty voiced Egypt’s appreciation for Nigeria’s official support for the candidacy of the Egypt’s Khaled El-Anany for the position of UNESCO Director-General. The candidate attended the meeting.

On combating terrorism, Abdel Aaty expressed Egypt’s readiness to transfer its expertise and provide all means of support in this respect, including training and field support, as well as countering extremist ideology through Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and the Cairo International Centre for Conflict Resolution and Peacekeeping.

The meeting addressed developments in the Sahel, West Africa, the Horn of Africa, Sudan, and Libya, reiterating two countries’ shared view on the importance of intensifying joint African action to support stability and development efforts and address security challenges threatening Africa.

For his part, the Nigerian president commended Egypt’s pivotal and constructive role in supporting security, stability, and development on the African continent.
