Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli has affirmed the government’s commitment to monitoring the progress of the first phase of the presidential “Hayah Karima” (Decent Life) initiative.
The prime minister noted that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has issued directives to accelerate the completion of all first-phase development and service projects and to prepare for the launch of the second and third ones, despite the challenges and repercussions of the current regional events.
These projects, the prime minister said, play a crucial and pivotal role in improving and upgrading the quality of services provided across different sectors for citizens in targeted rural villages, he said.
Madbouli made these remarks during a meeting at the government HQ in the New Capital, on Tuesday, to follow up the progress realised so far in implementing the first phase of the initiative to develop Egypt’s rural villages as well as its financial status.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Randa El Menshawy, Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom, Presidential Advisor for the “Decent Life” initiative Lt. Gen. Mohamed Farid Hegazy, Deputy Minister of Housing for Utilities Ahmed Omran, representatives of the Armed Forces Financial Affairs Authority and Engineering Authority, Director of Dar Al-Handasah (project consultant), and officials from various ministries and concerned entities.
The meeting reviewed updates of the implementation status of the first phase of the initiative, Cabinet Spokesman Mohamed el-Homosani said.
Since March 10, work has been completed in 20 villages, including 174 projects, with 148 ones delivered across different sectors, he added.
This brings the total number of completed villages to 722 out of 1,477 villages in this phase.
He added that the total number of completed projects under the first phase of the “Decent Life” initiative has reached 22,776 projects so far.
In addition, the meeting reviewed the financial status of the initiative, including allocated and available funding, as well as the required cash flows for the coming period to ensure the swift completion and operation of first-phase projects, maximising the benefits of investments and expanding the number of beneficiaries, the spokesman noted.
Meanwhile, the meeting addressed several challenges facing the construction sector due to ongoing regional events, which have disrupted supply chains and driven up the prices of many materials.
The meeting also reviewed the government’s efforts to address these challenges through coordination among various state entities to ensure the continuation of economic and developmental activities, particularly those aimed at providing essential services to citizens.
