Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said on Sunday that his talks with and the visiting Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani were intensive and constructive discussions, covering various bilateral, regional and international issues and reflecting joint political will for the consolidation of distinguished relations between the two countries.
Speaking to a press conference following the summit meeting on Sunday, President Sisi said that discussions with President Ould Ghazouani reflected mutual political will to promote bilateral relations, ushering them to wider horizons through energizing the frameworks for co-operation.
The summit talks, President Sisi added, also covered coordination between the two countries in various fields, taking into account the common challenges facing Egypt and Mauritania, including those of achieving comprehensive development, confronting external interference in the region, combating terrorism and extremist ideology, and preserving the national state and its institutions.
In his statement to the press conference, President said that agreement was reached during the summit talks on promoting economic, investment and trade ties, in addition to expediting the preparations for convening the next session of the Egyptian-Mauritanian Joint Higher Committee.
Due to be meet this year, the Committee would serve the common target of consolidating bilateral relations, deepening partnership and boosting the frameworks for co-operation and coordination on all issues of common interest, the Egyptian leader said.
The latest developments on the Arab scene were also considered during the summit talks, President Sisi said, adding that he and President Ould Ghazouani agreed on the importance of advancing the mechanisms of joint Arab action with a view to maintaining Arab national security and protecting the unity, sovereignty and potentials of Arab countries.
On the latest developments of the Palestinian cause, President Sisi said the summit talks covered the efforts under way to preserve the rights of the Palestinian people and realise their aspiration for an independent state on the June 4, 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Regarding the latest developments of the Libyan crisis, President Sisi said the summit talks reflected an accord of views on the necessity of holding presidential and parliamentary in Libya simultaneously with the exit of all foreign troops and mercenaries, with no exception and in a specified period of time in implementation of relevant international resolutions.
On the developments of the situation in the Sudan, President Sisi said he and President Ould Ghazouani stressed the importance of an immediate and durable ceasefire as well as the need for preserving the Sudanese national institutions and preventing their collapse.
“From this podium, we urge all sides to prioritise the voice of wisdom in order to maintain the potentials of the Sudanese state and the interests of its people,’ President Sisi said, adding that he and President Ould Ghazouani agreed on the importance of intensifying efforts to guarantee the safe arrival of humanitarian and relief aid to alleviate the sufferings of those affected.
On the issue of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, President Sisi said he and President Ould Ghazouani stressed that Egypt’s water security is an indivisible part of Arab water security, and emphasized the importance of urging Ethiopia to reflect the political will to adopt any of the compromise solutions put forward on the negotiation table.
The two leaders also agreed to bolster efforts on the African domain, carrying on with coordination within the framework of the African Union, as well as supporting the peace, security and development structure on the continent.
Earlier yesterday, President Sisi received his Mauritanian counterpart upon arrival at the Cairo International Airport on a three-day visit to Egypt and accompanied him to Al Ittihadiya Presidential Palace where Ould Ghazouani was granted an official reception. The national anthems of the two countries were played and the two leaders reviewed a guard of honour.
Presidents Sisi and Ould Ghazouani had held one-on-one talks before being joined by delegations from both sides in an expanded session, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
