Egypt is joining the international community in celebrating Earth Day 2026, observed annually on April 22, Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad announced.
This year’s global observance is held under the theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” which focuses on raising awareness of individual and collective climate action and accelerating the transition toward clean energy.
The minister said Egypt’s participation reflects a growing shift in environmental awareness, amid increasing global calls for practical measures to address climate challenges. She noted that the ministry is implementing a series of seminars and technical workshops in schools and universities aimed at strengthening environmental awareness and supporting international efforts to protect the planet from environmental degradation and climate change.
Awad reaffirmed that Egypt is steadily advancing toward a green economy and greater reliance on clean energy sources, stressing that the current phase requires the concerted efforts of all segments of society, including government institutions, the private sector, and citizens, to ensure the sustainability of resources for future generations.
She added that Egypt has made significant progress in integrating environmental considerations into development planning, supporting sustainable, low-emission economic growth.
Earth Day is an annual global event observed on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first launched in 1970.
