The Cabinet’s Media Centre said the solar alignment phenomenon illuminating the face of King Ramses II is a unique event dating back 33 centuries reflecting remarkable scientific advancement achieved by ancient Egyptian civilisation.
The phenomenon occurs twice annually – on October 22 marking the flood and planting season and on February 22 celebrating the harvest season.
On these dates, the sun’s rays align with the statue of King Ramses II and the statues of the deities Amun and Ra-Horakhty inside the temple sanctuary, in a striking scene that showcases the precision of ancient architectural design and the engineering genius of ancient Egypt.
