Egypt’s Minister of Finance Mohamed Maeet affirmed on Monday that Egypt, with its wise political leadership, was able to make new history by moving steadily towards digital economy, in an unprecedented process of construction and development.

The minister’s remarks came in his speech during the ninth edition of the Financial Technology and Digital Inclusion Exhibition and Conference (PAFIX) as part of the twenty-sixth session of the Cairo International Technology Exhibition and Conference (Cairo ICT).

In his speech, Minister Maeet said a conscious understanding of digital transformation goes beyond the transition from a paper-based work environment to electronic one, as a basic pillar in the development process, and extends to re-engineering and simplifying procedures, providing appropriate legislative structure, and qualified human resources to manage automated systems in a work environment that stimulates innovation.

He added that this contributes to increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of government performance, improving the quality of services provided to citizens, and enhancing governance and transparency.

“The coronavirus crisis demonstrated the importance of efforts to move to Digital Egypt, which contributed to alleviating the repercussions of the pandemic, and the sustainability of financial and government transactions by optimising the use of advanced technology, and the localisation of distinguished international experiences. “

The minister highlighted the ambitious projects, which are based on the optimal use of the most up to date global financial, tax and customs technology, in developing the Egyptian administrative systems under the generous patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

Maeet explained that the ministry launched the electronic declaration system, then proceeded to automate the unified tax procedures system, in a parallel path with the application of the electronic invoice system. He noted that around 135,000 companies joined the system.
