Egypt’s Labour Minister Hassan Raddad and executives representing Leoni Egypt, the local unit of Germany’s Leoni AG, have discussed increasing employment opportunities and training programmes for Egyptian workers, the ministry said on Sunday.
The delegation was led by Sherif El-Dessouki.
The ministry is keen to deepen partnerships with major industrial companies operating in Egypt to create more job opportunities for young people and open new labour markets for trained Egyptian workers, Raddadsaid.
The government is also working to align vocational training programmes with the needs of modern industries, in line with directives from President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to invest in human capital and promote sustainable development, he added.
The two sides agreed on steps to strengthen cooperation, including plans to announce about 500 new jobs for assembly technicians at several company branches in the coming days.
They also discussed preparations to train around 3,000 young people for future jobs in automotive wiring harness manufacturing ahead of the planned opening of a new industrial complex in Robbiki next year.
The ministry and the company are expected to sign a cooperation protocol to train and qualify workers according to the company’s operational needs, he noted.
The two sides also agreed on a plan for Leoni to provide some of its machinery and equipment to vocational training centres affiliated with the labourministry to help train young people in the technical skills required by the company.
Raddad stressed Egypt’s commitment to encouraging both local and foreign investment and supporting serious investors by addressing any obstacles facing industrial expansion.
Leoni Egypt operates 14 factories across several Egyptian governorates and employs about 5,800 workers and technicians. The company’s exports exceed 100 million euros ($109 million) annually, contributing to Egypt’s industrial output and export growth, the ministry said.
