Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker conferred on Tuesday with his Lebanese counterpart Walid Fayyad on means of boosting joint co-operation and means of benefiting Lebanon from Egypt’s experiment in the field of electricity and renewable energy.
In a statement released by Electricity Ministry on Tuesday, Shaker praised the distinguished and strategic relations between Cairo and Beirut, terming them as “model example” of constructive co-operation among the Arab countries.
He said the meeting affirmed Egypt’s keenness on extending bridges of co-operation with various Arab countries as well as opening up new markets for the Egyptian companies to start new businesses.
Shaker also renewed the Egyptian government backing for Lebanon to improve its electricity and energy sector and provide all potentials of the Egyptian electricity sector to serve the Lebanese people.
He said the political leadership has prioritised the electricity energy problem as it is a cornerstone in the various economic and social fields, considering it an issue of national security.
The Lebanese minister, for his part, praised the vast expertise of the Egyptian side in the fields of electricity and renewable energy and voiced resolve over benefiting from it in the reconstruction of Lebanon.
The two sides stressed the importance of coordination to support the power interconnection between Egypt and other Arab countries. They also addressed means of easing measures to involve the Egyptian companies in electricity projects in Lebanon to solve its energy shortage problems.
