Egypt, Lebanon discuss supporting Lebanese health sector

CAIRO – Egyptian Higher Education Minister and Acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar discussed Thursday in a meeting with visiting Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad means of supporting Lebanon’s health sector.

During the meeting, Abdel Ghaffar said Egypt is keen on transferring its experience to build a robust Lebanese health system that is capable of facing crises and pandemics, said Spokesman for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.

Abdel Ghaffar said the Egyptian political leadership is keen on backing the Lebanese health sector.

The meeting tackled how to develop the pharmaceutical industry in Lebanon, as the Egyptian health minister issued directives for immediately offering all required medication to Beirut.

Abdel Ghaffar said Egyptian hospitals are willing to receive critically ill patients from Lebanese citizens, as well as dispatching Egyptian physicians in different specializations to give a hand to the Lebanese health sector.

On his part, the Lebanese health minister stressed his country’s keenness to make the best use of Egypt’s experience in implementing public health initiatives, in addition to applying the new universal health insurance system to provide high-quality health services.
