The Egyptian Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) released an infographic highlighting the State’s efforts to diversify energy resources over the past few years.
The infographic, which is titled “Egypt the biggest producer of solar energy, said Egypt is the largest and first producer of wind energy in Africa since 2000.
Egypt generates wind energy at a capacity of 1,375 MW, it said, adding Egypt’s production of wind power including Zafarana wind station with a capacity of 545 MW and Jabal El Zait wind farm with a capacity of 580 MW.
Egypt is also possessing solar energy stations with a total capacity of 1,763 MW including Benban solar plant with a capacity of 1,465 with total investments of dlrs 2.2 billion that has been operational since April 2018. The report also pointed out to Kuraymat solar energy station with a capacity of 140 MW that has been operational since July 2011.
According to a report released by the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, plans are currently underway to operate new solar plans with a capacity of more than 1,170 MW.
The infographic highlights Egyptian efforts to attain transition to clean energy.
That can be attributed to the country’s efforts aimed to raising its capabilities of producing solar energy and wind power and capitalizing on renewable energy investments during the period between 2010-2020, according to it.
