Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed that Egypt will continue to provide all possible support to the Palestinian cause, in a manner that would guarantee the realisation of the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people based on the principle of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The President’s remarks came as he received on Tuesday Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
During the meeting, President Sisi underscored the importance of uniting all efforts during the current stage in order to support the Palestinian position and maintain calm, especially in the Gaza Strip.
For his part, the Palestinian president expressed appreciation for Egypt’s tireless efforts in support of the Palestinian cause, praising Egypt’s established historical role in this regard and its efforts to reach a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause.
He also stressed that Egypt’s position reflects of the depth and special Egyptian-Palestinian relations and the extended bonds between the Egyptian and Palestinian peoples. He noted that he is keen on maintaining continuous consultation and coordination with President Sisi on the overall Palestinian situation.
The two presidents also agreed during the meeting to continue intensive consultation and coordination, whether at the bilateral level, or as part of the Egyptian-Jordanian-Palestinian tripartite coordination formula, and other multiple frameworks, in order to follow up on the next steps and efforts to support the Palestinian cause.
