Egyptian President Sisi and Chancellor Nehammer agree on intensifying dialogue to establish framework for co-operation in the illegal immigration file and address its economic, development and social roots.
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi underscored on Thursday Egypt’s keenness on enhancing co-operation with Austria in all fields, including transport, manufacturing and renewable energy.
During a meeting with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer at the Presidential Palace in Cairo, the president voiced out Egypt’s desire to achieve a tangible increase in trade with Austria and attract Austrian investments.
He described the meeting with the Austrian chancellor as a ‘good opportunity’ for consultations and coordination on a number of international and regional issues of common interest.
Egyptian Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi said the visions of President Sisi and Chancellor Nehammer highlighted the importance of fruitful consultations and continuous coordination to deal with the many unprecedented challenges facing the international community.
He added that talks between the Egyptian leader and the German chancellor tackled the Russian-Ukrainian war and its negative repercussions on international peace and security and international energy and food security.
The presidency spokesman noted that the two leaders also discussed the repercussions of the war on developing countries.
“Acknowledging the importance of achieving international peace and security, Egypt continues to call – in contacts with parties to the crisis – for prioritizing dialogue and a peaceful settlement to end the conflict at the earliest opportunity,” Fahmi quoted President Sisi as saying during the meeting.
He added that the president also reviewed Egypt’s vision towards a number of important regional files and the efforts it made to address the causes of instability in the region.
The president affirmed, meanwhile, Egypt’s keenness to restore stability in Sudan and preserve the capabilities of its brotherly people, the presidency spokesman said.
He said the two leaders also discussed illegal immigration and agreed on intensifying dialogue to establish a framework for cooperation on this issue.
He noted that the two leaders also agreed to handle this issue in a comprehensive way that addresses its economic, development and social roots.
In this context, President Sisi referred to the presence of 9 million refugees in Egypt.
These refugees, the president said, enjoy all basic services available to Egyptian citizens without discrimination.
The Egyptian leader also referred to what he described as ‘serious’ and ‘continuous’ steps taken by Egypt with regard to human rights.
Egypt, he said, approaches this file in an inclusive manner that enables citizens to exercise their political, economic and social rights.
These rights, the president noted, are enshrined in the Egyptian constitution.
“Egypt is always ready for dialogue and constructive cooperation with its partners regarding this important file,” the president said.
He highlighted the successes achieved by the government and people in confronting terrorism and extremism in the past years.
“Egypt offered great sacrifices in this regard, within a comprehensive vision that covers all the dimensions and the causes of this abhorrent phenomenon,” the president said.
