CAIRO – The State is keen on working towards achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs) in order to meet the Egyptians ambitions and needs in improving living circumstances, affirmed Finance Minister Mohamed Maeet.
During his meeting Thursday with UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Rola Dashti, the minister said that an agreement was reached between the two sides to discuss ways to benefit from the electronic applications that ESCWA is developing in the field of social spending, which is considered an important tool in formulating the countries’ financial policies.
The minister, meanwhile, hailed efforts exerted by the ESCWA to serve the social and economic goals of the state members, including Egypt.
He further urged the donor countries to provide the necessary support for the ESCWA initiative related to debt swap.
He highlighted the debt swap as an effective measure to reduce the debt burden on countries and at the same time achieve sustainable development goals.
The UN official, for her part, said that the ESCWA is keen on boosting bilateral cooperation with the Egyptian government in the various spheres.
The ESCWA is currently working on formulating a host of new programs to serve its members, she added.
