President Sisi holds summit talks with visiting King Abdullah II
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and King Abdullah II of Jordan have stressed the importance of supporting the Syrian state and the necessity of maintaining the unity of Syria, its territorial integrity and the security of its people.
The two leaders expressed this position during summit talks they held in Cairo on Monday, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shenawy, said.
Citing special reference to Egypt and Jordan as members of the Arab Liaison Committee on Syria, President Sisi and the visiting Jordanian monarch underscored the importance of starting a comprehensive political process that does not exclude any side.
The aspired process, the two leaders emphasised, should be inclusive of all components and mosaic of the Syrian people, spokesman Shennawy said.
Continuing their consideration of regional developments and efforts to coordinate the positions of their two countries especially regarding the developments in the Palestinian territories, President Sisi and King Abdullah II stressed the necessity of achieving an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid.
President Sisi and King Abdullah II also expressed utter rejection of the liquidation of the Palestinian cause, the displacing of Palestinians from their lands and attempts to eliminate or protract the two-state solution, spokesman Shennawy said.
In this context, the Egyptian and Jordanian leaders, he added, stressed that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital is the sole guarantorfor the realisation of peace and stability in the Middle East.
Turning to Lebanon, President Sisi and King Abdullah welcomed the ceasefire agreement and called for the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701. They underscored their keenness on Lebanon’s security, sovereignty and stability. They also expressed rejection of any attack on Lebanon and urged all parties to demonstrate responsibility by halting the current escalation tensions in the region.
The meeting concluded with both leaders welcoming the pace of bilateral coordination and consultation between the two countries in reflection of utmost importance of Egyptian-Jordanian ties. President Sisi and King Abdullah II also affirmed that Egypt and Jordan are looking forward to sustaining action for the consolidation of bilateral co-operation in various fields, the Presidency spokesman said.
