Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and King Abdullah II of Jordan reiterated their total rejection of all attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause, transfer Palestinians outside their land, or displace them internally, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
The two leaders held a summit at the Cairo’s Al-Ittihadiya Presidential Palace yesterday. They discussed regional developments, especially in Gaza, and the humanitarian tragedy it faces, which left scores of thousands killed or wounded, and hundreds of thousands displaced, let alone the vast devastation of the infrastructure and facilities in the coastal enclave, Spokesman Fahmy added.
President Sisi and King Abdullah II also stressed that the only solution that the international community must work for is to reach an immediate ceasefire, and allow the delivery of humanitarian and relief aid into Gaza, in the necessary quantities and at the speed likely to bring about a real difference in alleviating sufferings of the people there.
This should be parallel to serious effort towards a political path with the aim of concluding a just and comprehensive settlement, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the international legitimacy, Spokesman Fahmy noted.
The two leaders also emphasised that the international community bears a great political and moral responsibility to implement the resolutions of the UN’s Security Council and General Assembly, in a manner that preserves the credibility of the international system.
President Sisi and King Abdullah, in the meantime, warned against the expansion of the conflict, so as not to destabilise regional and international security, Fahmy noted.
Meanwhile, the two leaders voiced satisfaction with the pace of coordination and consultation between the two countries. They also discussed means to further advance bilateral ties in all fields, based on the fraternity and special relations between the two peoples.
