Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aati discussed on Wednesday with Japanese Ambassador in Cairo Oka Hiroshi means of boosting co-operation in the water resources domain.
The minister hailed the distinguished historical relations between the two countries and co-operation which resulted in implementing many joint projects in the water resources domain.
He added the project of establishing the New Dairut barrage group, implemented through a soft loan from Japan, witnessed the establishment of 6 barrages as part of cooperation between the two countries.
The minister said that his ministry expanded the use of solar energy in the irrigation projects and the subterranean wells to curb emissions.
Abdel Aati briefed the Japanese diplomat on his ministry’s efforts to improve irrigation systems in Egypt and adapt to the climate change repercussions.
They reviewed the latest developments in negotiations with Ethiopia on the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and the flexibility Egypt showed during the negotiations and Cairo’s insistence on maintaining its water rights for the benefit of all parties.
For his part, the Japanese ambassador hailed distinguished relations between the two countries especially in the water resources domains.
