CAIRO – Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a phone call from his Japanese counterpart Yoko Kamikawa to discuss the violent escalation in the Gaza Strip, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.
During the phone call, Shoukry stressed the importance of halting the fierce Israeli shelling on the Gaza Strip as well as avoiding escalation from both sides.
He warned of the deteriorating humanitarian situation and the consequences of the expansion of the conflict on the stability of the region.
The foreign minister called for intensifying and coordinating international efforts to allow urgently needed humanitarian aid to reach the besieged Palestinian enclave, saying that this is the responsibility of the world community under international law and international humanitarian law.
The ministers agreed on continuing consultations in the coming days to support de-escalation efforts.
