Egypt’s Ambassador to Italy, Bassam Radi, revealed on Saturday ongoing negotiations with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP)—Italy’s sovereign investment bank—to implement a joint project aimed at generating solar energy for the industrial sector.
The proposed initiative aims to generate 200 megawatts of clean energy specifically to power state-owned factories under the public business sector. The project builds upon existing, successful models of direct solar energy utilization within Egypt’s industrial landscape.
His remarks came during a meeting at the Egyptian Embassy in Rome, where he received an Egyptian technical delegation from the Ministry of Electricity and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) office in Cairo.
The visit aimed to engage with the Italian side and discuss finalizing the details of the proposed project.
Radi noted that the initiative is expected to deliver mutual benefits, contributing to the provision of clean energy for state-owned factories amid the ongoing global energy crisis.
He added that Egypt possesses abundant renewable energy resources, particularly in solar and wind power.
