Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) Amr Talaat met yesterday Egypt’s Ambassador to Italy Bassem Rady during his visit to Rome.
The visit comes in response to an invitation from Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, to participate in the launch of Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development Centre, headquartered in Rome.
Ambassador Rady said that Egypt was selected by the Italian side to join the Centre’s Board of Directors for the current and next year, alongside a limited number of other countries.
Minister Talaat also held talks with Minister Urso at the premises of Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy. The discussions focused on the objectives of the newly launched AI Centre, which was announced during Italy’s presidency of the G7 in 2024. The initiative is being implemented in co-operation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the European Commission, and private-sector partners.
Talaat expressed Egypt’s readiness to expand co-operation with Italy in the field of artificial intelligence. He outlined Egypt’s national efforts, including the launch of the second phase of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy.
Ambassador Rady said that the Egyptian Embassy in Rome hosted a series of meetings between Minister Talaat and representatives from the Italian Industrial Federation and private-sector companies operating in telecommunications, information technology, banking, and financial services. The meetings explored opportunities for Egypt-Italy collaboration in AI, ICT, and data transfer.
